This is one of the many questions that's been asked everyday when it comes to skincare. Whether to use sunscreen first or moisturizer first.
In my opinion it's better to get a sunscreen with antioxidants so that it can protect your skin from the harmful rays of the sun and at the same time moisturizing you skin. This is what I do during daytime, I apply my sunscreen rich with antioxidants then at nighttime I just use a plain moisturizer.
Firstly before you want to know when to apply sunscreen, you should find out the type of sunscreen you are using. There are two types of sunscreens. We have the chemical and the physical. The chemical sunscreen is composed of oxybenzone or avobenzone. The physical sunscreen is made of titanium dioxide or zinc oxide.
"A Chemical sunscreen should go on clean, bare skin first" says Laurie Polis, MD, director of Soho Skin and Laser Dermatology in New York City[source- Oprah. com].
"You need to give it time to be absorbed, because in order to be effective, it must interact with skin cells. A sunscreen with a physical block like titanium dioxide or zinc oxide can be applied last after a serum or moisturizer"[ source-Oprah.com].
According to what the expert is saying, sunscreen with chemical compositions like avobenzone or oxybenzone should be applied on a bare skin before you use a moisturizer. A physical sunscreen made of zinc oxide or titanium dioxide can be applied last thus after using a moisturizer.
For a sunscreen to work effectively, apply on skin 20 minutes before you go outside.
